Meet the founder
Wawa, I’m Skye Hunter, a proud Taungurung woman of the Kulin Nation and the visionary behind Ganbu Country. My mission is deeply rooted in my heritage and connection to country. I am committed to restoring the threatened Box Ironbark forest while creating meaningful opportunities for our First Nations people to reclaim our sovereignty and thrive. My connection spans across the Kulin Nation, embracing the shared cultural ties and traditions of this diverse and rich region.
This journey is personal to me. It’s about continuously learning, honoring, and immersing myself in my culture and heritage. As I grow, I weave this knowledge into every aspect of my work, blending traditional Indigenous wisdom with contemporary practices to create sustainable solutions that nurture both the land and our community.
Currently, I manage a private property on Taungurung Country within the Box Ironbark Forest. My team and I are dedicated to conservation and restoration efforts here. We’re working on projects like installing nesting boxes, setting up fauna cameras, conducting flora and fauna surveys, collecting native seeds, integrating sustainable agricultural techniques, and managing invasive plants without chemicals.
From harvesting native plants on Taungurung Country to developing a skincare range that reflects the healing properties of the land, my work is a reflection of my respect for culture, my dedication to self-determination, and my passion for environmental conservation.
As a passionate advocate for Indigenous-led environmental restoration and innovation, I envision a future where First Nations people can reconnect with Country, share our wisdom with the world, and create lasting prosperity for future generations. Through Ganbu Country, I invite you to join me on this transformative journey of healing, empowerment, and self-determination.
Ngun Godjin, (Thank you)
Skye Hunter
